2015-02-27 17.01.38

2015-02-27 16.55.46

Some bizarre feedback again!

On the Needles:

Queen Maud is past the tasty charts and now a tad boring.

2015-02-26 21.11.51

I’m considering using snap tape for the closures in lieu of buttons, as gaping seems to be an issue in the finished cardigans I’ve seen on ravelry. I’d love to hear from you if you have experience or advice about snap tape!

I finished my All of the Rainbows BFL/Silk socks yesterday!

2015-03-07 20.12.12

I forgot to mention it, but I also knitted a swatch so I could test their machine wash-ability. Like a grown up! The swatch was fine, by the way.

Knot on my Watch:

I made an accidental-Leprechaun baby bobble beard crochet beanie for a brand new friend.

2015-02-28 16.57.51

Pattern from here.

Tree Change Dolls:

Three dolls now have faces! That first image is the before and after of the same doll. It’s kind of amazing,

2015-03-06 16.56.34

I’m pretty happy with how they’re going. My brain is still tickled…

And I ponder, for IWD, unnecessary apologies. I am aiming for gratitude, not guilt.

Peace out,

Ms Spider xo

Episode 38 Show Notes

Episode 38 can be found here and here.

In this episode:

I announce the winner of the Anniversary Giveaway. Congratulations Ozemutha, send me your address by rav or IG  PM or email me at happyspiderknitsATgmailDOTcom so I can get your prize in the mail. 🙂

I answer a question from the ravelry thread on how I organise my stash. See also Episode 2 for more info about the stash.

I  talk about my current burn for lace and the Sweet Dreams shawlette I am knitting from the Boo Knits In Love Collection. I am knitting in Madtosh Merino Light in La Vie en Rose. I do not have beads, and would love to know where my listeners buy theirs!

10725180_801627506543027_2055166382_n

I talk about my super fun quilt project of the week: the Constructivist quilt from Little Bits Quilting Bee by Kathreen Ricketson. (Pro tip: you NEED this book).

10748414_311460739043396_1196154317_n

I also discuss the skirt I’m making from fabric from my grandmother’s stash. (Seen here without zip, so pinned to front of dress form lining hanging out underneath and knitting needles in pocket to point out existence of pocket).

10724939_384648871692887_868482307_n

It feels like a parody of Heidi (or a “chara-couture” as my husband put it). Down with false pockets! Pockets for all!

Peace out,

Episode 37 Show Notes

You can find episode 37 here and here.

I talk a bit about my beloved grandmother, who passed away on the 10th of October at the age of 86.

10731602_1480623292198051_580266697_n

She is 18 in this photograph, and looks so like me it is a little spooky. My father has been telling me for years that I strongly resemble how she looked as a young woman but I hadn’t seen any photographs until very recently. It is comforting and strange.

Mama

She is 84 in this picture. She was notoriously difficult to photograph, usually blinking. This photo is like magic to me: she is laughing while my husband is talking to her, she is wearing a silk shawl I knit and lent her for the occasion (my cousin/her grand-daughter’s wedding) and the hanging basket of petunia’s… well, they were a flower she always grew. The ring she is wearing is one my father bought her while traveling in the 1970’s, and the last time I saw her she insisted that I have it. The blurry figure in pink in the background is another cousin/grand-daughter, who was a bridesmaid. This paragraph is probably very disjointed, but I guess the point is this picture is perfect. I will finish by saying I wore the same shawl to her funeral and felt very close to her.

I talk about the hand-quilting on my Modern Medallion Quilt.

10727486_759456937424245_361096388_n

I quilted my Reece Scannel shot cotton rainbow quilt and the binding is underway.

10723894_1374351632855970_641182663_n

10735056_791352370903452_1788598531_n

I’ve also graduated from project sacks to quilted, zippy project boxes. I followed the tutorial here.

10311026_1478969682380204_1092616890_n

I’ve been knitting very little, but my favourite project is the sock I am knitting from my own dyed yarn (bonus shot of quilted project bag too).

1389902_1565059607050867_808712494_n

I finished spinning the Wren and Ollie bump. It is soooo nice.

10731464_739606742787028_850262199_n

10735069_1477160869214090_435756086_n

I also spun some bulky singles that made me crave Neapolitan icecream for days.

10724673_354823238020618_1806096680_n

I talk about fixing the dye in some yarn I had in stash (not my dyeing, I hasten to add). I following (the knitmoregirls) Jasmin and Gigi’s method to great effect. Full instructions here, and while it is an extra step, my feeling is that if you just do it when you wash your knits for the first time it’s not a big job (and can save A LOT of trouble).

You have a week left to enter the giveaway – details in last set of show notes. I will draw on the 2nd November, and will podcast (even if it’s only 5 minutes!).

I also talk about my experiences with massdrop, and with total transparency tell you that if you follow my link and end up buying something, I could be rewarded with a gift. It is a rabbit hole, so be warned.

Peace out,

Ms Spider xo
